| Amelanistic cornsnakes have long been a favorite amongst cornsnake enthusiasts. Also known as amel, albino and red albino, this morph is the result of a single recessive gene which removes melanin (the black pigment). Typically, variation in this morph can vary greatly. Saddle color can be a light orange to a deep red while the ground color can range from white to an intense orange. Where the black would normally be found, the color can vary from white to yellow, pink or even take on a greenish hue. This morph has been selectively bred into several variations - sunglow, candycane, reverse Okeetee and fluorescent orange. The eyes of amels are a distinct red/pink. |
