Lacking the checkered belly, motley corn snakes have irregular patterns containing both
stripes and blotches often connected together in varying degrees.  This trait is caused by a
single recessive gene.  An allele to the stripe gene, when both are present, the results can be
difficult to distinguish from "pure" motleys, but often result in a combination of both traits.
