The zigzag pattern is the result of the left and right side of
the dorsal saddles being offset, creating a zipper-like effect.
One to all saddles may be affected. Generally, a cornsnake
should have 80% or more of the saddles showing this
pattern to be considered zigzag. Individuals showing fewer
zigzag saddles are often called "partial" zigzags. The exact
genetics of this pattern morph is not completely known.
Breeding highly patterned individuals together tends to
produce patterned offspring, but normal patterned
offspring may still result. The opposite may also
occur...zigzag patterned offspring may occur from normally
patterned parents. As a result, breeding zigzag cornsnakes
is always full of surprises! That's why I love this morph!
